Please join us for a casual reception to celebrate Gina’s work and success at the Partnership on June 21st, 4pm at our offices!
June 2012 marks a major milestone in the life of Partnership for Youth Development! Our leader of over six years is moving on to the helm of the National Afterschool Association and we couldn’t be prouder of her accomplishments here in New Orleans! When Gina Warner took over leadership of the Partnership in April 2006 the out-of-school time community was reeling after the hurricanes and levee breaches of 2005. Gina changed the direction of the Partnership to better address the set-up needs of community based organizations, schools, nascent charter school groups and summer programs, making sure that New Orleans families had positives options and opportunities for their children and youth to participate in as they undertook the huge task of resurrecting their lives and our beloved city.
Gina has been tireless in her efforts to bring a national spotlight to the very specific issues New Orleans faced after 2005 and beyond. From hosting national out-of-school time leaders for strategic thinking around city-wide infrastructure for youth to supporting direct national funding of local summer programming, Gina has shown an amazing aptitude for serving those who care for our greatest resource, the children and youth of New Orleans. More recently, Gina has funneled resources and PYD’s efforts towards the advancement of youth development professionals and direct opportunities for New Orleans youth to participate in the improvement of city services through advocacy and mapping. She has lead PYD’s efforts to pilot innovative initiatives like the CP3Afterschool Zone presented by Chase and partnered with national leaders at The After-School Corporation to bring ExpandED Schools to New Orleans schools. As Gina moves to the national stage as Executive Director of NAA we look forward to partnering with her and continuing to expand New Orleans’ influence.
Here at home the work continues and we are thrilled that our Deputy Director, Dr. Lauren Bierbaum has accepted the request of our Board to move into the position of Interim Executive Director. With a talented team and solid organizational foundation we move forward and are excited about the opportunities we have to provide innovation, advocacy and service to the children and youth of New Orleans!
