I remember my first unofficial job as kid - helping my father with his local pool maintenance business. He managed and ran the pool company by himself, a one-man show. At first I was along mainly for the experience and father-son bonding. But after a few months, I was able to start understanding the technical aspects of chlorine, calcium hardness, total alkalinity, etc. This taste of industry knowledge led me to appreciate learning at a young age. "Work smart, not hard." he would say. Since his company cleaned pools for homes across the Tampa and Orlando, I got to see a wide array of interesting swimming pool designs. Have you ever seen a pool shaped like a pineapple? I did. Cleaning pools was the most rewarding job I could of asked for as a youth.
